What It Feels Like

What It Feels Like

As if I've swallowed
A watermelon
And
Sidestepping
My digestive tract
It has lodged
In my heart.
There it lies
Green
& whole
with a luscious
red
heart of its own
daring me
to cut.

Alice Walker

  1. I honestly didn't really understand what she was trying to say in this poem. I think the mood for this is sorrow or sadness. She uses a lot of wired figurative language. Personally I think she might be talking about love because it could make a person feel this way if they have gotten there heart broken .This poem doesn't really have a rhyme pattern. this poem does have imagery though, you can actually she the watermelon lodged in her chest, when I think about it, I think about the saying " the elephant I the room", meaning she has something weighing heavily that she would like say.
